Connecting ChatGPT

ChatGPT connects to Naetive as a connector behind its Developer Mode. Two steps, no install. It can then read and write everything on Naetive; to let it work on files on your machine, start the tunnel afterwards.

What you need

  • ChatGPT on a paid plan (custom connectors need one)
  • The connector URL from the Connect page (open the ChatGPT row; the URL includes your key, so treat it like a password)

Step 1: Turn on Developer Mode

In ChatGPT: Settings, Connectors, Advanced, and switch on Developer mode. The wording moves between releases; look for Advanced or Developer.

Step 2: Add the connector

Settings, Connectors, add a connector. Paste the URL from Connect. Set authentication to None: the key rides inside the URL.

Step 3: Check it worked

Start a new chat and ask "What's my current focus?" If it answers with your project, you are connected. The ChatGPT row on Connect shows as set up.

Giving it your files

ChatGPT cannot see your machine on its own. Start the tunnel inside the project folder:

~/.naetive/start-tunnel.sh

While it runs, ChatGPT can read and change that folder, and only that folder. See Installing the tunnel.

Add the one-time instruction

So every chat starts grounded, add the instruction from Start a project with your AI to ChatGPT's custom instructions.

Other clients

Any other MCP-capable client uses the same server address shown on Connect, with your key sent as a bearer header. Connect's "Other MCP agent" row has the raw values.
